GEL INJECTIONS
what are Gel Injections (Hyaluronic Acid Injections)?
Hyaluronic acid injections—commonly called gel injections—are a non-surgical treatment for joint pain caused by arthritis, most often in the knee or shoulder. During the procedure, a lubricating gel is carefully delivered into the affected joint using ultrasound or X-ray guidance to ensure accuracy and comfort. Treatment typically involves a series of three injections, spaced out over time. Most patients experience only mild discomfort during the injection. Local anesthesia (numbing medicine) and ultrasound or xray guidance is used to make the injection more comfortable and precise.
Gel injections often last longer than steroid injections, and can help patients resume activities they have been unable to do because of pain. Another advantage over steroid injections is they do not cause a temporary increase in blood sugar the way steroid does.
