WHAT is Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy?

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is an innovative treatment that utilizes the healing properties of platelets found in your own blood to promote tissue repair and regeneration. Platelets contain growth factors and other bioactive proteins that play a crucial role in the body's natural healing process. PRP therapy involves isolating and concentrating these platelets from a small sample of your blood and then injecting them into the affected area to stimulate healing.

UNDERSTANDING THE PROCEDURE

How Does PRP Therapy Work?

During a PRP therapy session, a small amount of blood is drawn from your arm and processed using a centrifuge to separate the platelets from other blood components. The concentrated platelets are then injected into the injured or damaged tissue, where they release growth factors and other proteins that promote tissue repair, reduce inflammation, and accelerate healing. PRP therapy can be performed as an outpatient procedure and typically takes about 30 to 60 minutes to complete.

IS PRP THERAPY for you?

More Than a treatment: A Step Toward Relief

CONDITIONS TREATED:

PRP therapy has been shown to be effective in treating a variety of musculoskeletal and orthopedic conditions, including:

  • Tendon injuries: PRP therapy can help accelerate healing and reduce pain in conditions such as tendonitis (e.g., tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, Achilles tendonitis) and partial tendon tears.

  • Ligament injuries: PRP injections may promote healing and improve stability in ligament injuries such as sprains and tears, including those affecting the knee (e.g., ACL, MCL) and ankle.

  • Osteoarthritis: PRP therapy can help alleviate pain and improve joint function in individuals with osteoarthritis by promoting cartilage repair and reducing inflammation.

  • Muscle injuries: PRP injections may aid in the healing of muscle strains, tears, and other soft tissue injuries by stimulating tissue regeneration and reducing recovery time.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

  • A Minimally Invasive and Non-Surgical Procedure: PRP therapy is performed using only a simple blood draw and a precisely guided injection.

  • Enhanced Healing with Your Own Natural Healing Factors: PRP uses concentrated platelets from your own blood, which are rich in growth factors that stimulate tissue repair and regeneration. This natural approach helps accelerate the body’s healing process, making it particularly effective for joint injuries, tendon pain, and arthritis.

  • Extremely Low Incidence of Side Effects & Minimal Downtime: Since PRP is created from your own blood, the risk of allergic reaction or rejection is extremely low. Most patients experience only mild soreness at the injection site, and downtime is minimal—allowing a quick return to daily activities with the added benefit of long-term healing.

FAQS: Frequently asked questions

  • PRP injection is a low risk procedure. Unlike cortisone or other injectable medications, PRP is a natural substance derived from your body limiting adverse reactions.

  • No, the PRP comes from your own body and is used immediately. Therefore, there is no risk of rejection and very low risk of infection.

  • Some patients experience pain relief shortly after their PRP procedure. Patients typically report noticeable pain improvement in 4-6 weeks for joint injections.

  • PRP is ideal for patients who have not found an appropriate level of success in more conservative or traditional treatments, such as steroid injections, viscosupplements, physical therapy or bracing. PRP may also be an effective option for candidates that wish to attempt to delay or avoid a surgery.
